Garcinia Cambogia is the latest diet product to come out, but unlike other products, it may actually have the results to back up its’ claims. Native to India and parts of Southeast Asia, researchers say this pumpkin-like fruit can create dramatic weight loss results in only a short period of time. While this research has only been out for about a year, testimonials from real Garcinia Cambogia users can attest to its’ weight loss power. So how does Garcinia Cambogia cause weight loss and is it safe?
According to research, Garcinia Cambogia can actually facilitate weight loss in two main ways. First, it can act as an appetite suppressant to reduce your caloric intake significantly. As mentioned on the Dr. Oz show, garcinia cambogia can reduce your appetite by naturally increasing a brain chemical called serotonin.
Serotonin is responsible for managing your appetite as well as your mood. Our appetite and mood are inversely related, so this is the main reason that we eat more when we are stressed or depressed. By naturally increasing your serotonin levels, your mood is instantly uplifted and you can avoid crashing your diet by binge eating or emotionally eating.
While there has been some skepticism on whether or not garcinia cambogia can actually suppress appetite, a recent study offers some insight to whether the claims are true. In an 8 week trial, 60 obese adults were given either a placebo or a 130mg dose of HCA (the active ingredient in Garcinia Cambogia). After 8 weeks, the placebo group only lost 6 pounds, while the HCA group averaged a weight loss total of 14 pounds. The HCA group on average did not feel the need to eat the 1,200 calories of food they were given per day and researchers noted that the HCA group felt fuller significantly faster than the placebo group.
The second way garcinia cambogia can influence weight loss is by blocking a specific enzyme in our bodies called citrate lyase. This enzyme is responsible for converting excess carbohydrates we consume into fat cells. By blocking this enzyme from functioning, your body will not store any new fat cells and instead will convert the carbohydrates into usable energy that your body can burn off. Likewise, there have been noticeable gains in the resting metabolic rate of garcinia cambogia users after a short time, which means you can also burn more fat when you aren’t exercising, which is obviously good for weight loss.
